I want you to close your eyes for a moment and imagine yourself in the future. Let’s say you’re at your next class reunion. You’re meeting up with old friends and classmates catching up with what’s been going on since the last reunion. Sure, you still keep touch with some of them by way of social media, email, and what have you.
Then you get asked this question: “What have you been doing lately?”
The next thing that happens next is silence. You feel a shiver down your spine. Not a single word comes out of your mouth because you hesitate and think about what you’re going to say.
You’re embarrassed…even ashamed about the life you’re living right now. Nothing going on.
You don’t want to come off as boring. So lying or embellishing your reality may be the best answer.
Kind of awkward, don’t you think? Now, let’s rewind back to the beginning of the scenario.
You’re catching up and talking and you get asked the same question. This time, you imagine yourself beaming with pride. You’re still struggling to find the right words…
…but the only difference is you don’t know where to begin. There is excitement going on in your life. Things seemed much better now than they were then. But you come up with something on the fly and tell a story about it.
Then, you end it with something like “I didn’t think it would happen because of…”. Get the point?
Here’s the thing: you came across this because there seems to be no positive direction in your life. You feel like you’re going absolutely nowhere. You’re stationary rather than in motion.
There seems to be no end in sight. Not even a roadmap to get you out of the funk you’re in. Even if you attempt something, you’re worried about not being good enough at it.
Or you’re worried that nothing is going to work. These are examples of limiting beliefs. And those can be conquered easier than you actually think.
It’s like being locked inside of a prison where the gate is wide open. You can walk out at any time with no repercussions or escape charges (Note: We don’t actually condone escaping incarceration or any criminal activity). But you choose not to walk through that gate - an open opportunity to escape the prison that is built by your limiting beliefs.
